What Are You Listening To This Weekend?

Friday! And this time we mean it. No work, no travel, no plans beyond some gardening and of course getting back into the routine of listening to a different opera recording over the weekend.

This week we're digging deep into the obscure pile with a recording of The Devils of Loudun by Krzysztof Penderecki that I found up at Amoeba in San Francisco.

What are your listening plans this weekend? Share them in the comment section below. Whatever you do, make it a good one.

Okay, you started it. In my mp3 player for the weekend I have the new Decemberists album (The Hazards of Love), along with Moussorgsky's Boris Godounov - 1872 version. And yes, I realize that having an album in my mp3 player is physically impossible, but you get the idea.

We're not yet sure of The Hazzards of Love here at the Aria Serious tower. We appreciate the ambition of the piece but musically we fall more into the Picaresque camp of the Decemberists. Still, The Rake's Song is a standout as is Won't Want for Love. Check NPR for a love concert of this album as well. You can never go wrong with Boris.
